for today
Here's today quote - theatrical, no less:
Exit, pursued by a bear.
-- William Shakespeare, Stage direction in "The Winter's Tale"
I jet off tomorrow. May everything be on time.

as I walked...
Happened to see five planes take off as I walked down the hill from USD last night in the clear night sky.
What I wouldn't give to have been on one.
What I wouldn't give to have been on one.

How the ride went...
So on my way to USD on the train, I ended up sitting by two older homeless ladies...one African-American and the other Asian. As I had my iPad out the little Asian lady switched spots and sat right next to me so she could see what I was doing. At the urging of the other lady, she even got up the courage to try it out. I was happy to let her try.
Eventually she got off the train, and the other lady still across from me goes "you sure were nice to let her try. She'll never forget that.". I said I was happy to do that. Then she says, "you're a good man", and went back to watching things go by.
Such a nice to thing to say...very unexpected from a stranger. A statement that makes one think.

Here I go...
...on a solitary train ride to USD. Wish I felt better. Just missing...

as I work...
...I'm doing my very best to be focused on this lit review, so I decided to take a few minutes to do a quick post. Read, review; read, review. This is all going to pay off in the end, I know it.
In other news, the standoff in WI seems to be simmering down a bit, since they voted this last week to pass the budget bill. There was a big rally yesterday at the capitol, but I think it was more of a chance for the 14 senators who fled to IL to trumpet themselves. Just seems to be a mockery of the democratic process to me...
Travel news tidbit: airlines considering charging for carry-on's? This story is courtesy of USA Today:
Will leisure carrier Allegiant Air become the second U.S. airline to charge passengers to stow carry-on bags in its overhead bins?
"We definitely think that (idea) has a lot of merit, and we're studying it," Allegiant President Andrew Levy says in a wide-ranging Q&A with In Business Las Vegas, a publication affiliated with the Las Vegas Sun.
"I expect us to move in that direction," Levy says.
Currently, Spirit Airlines is the only other U.S. carrier to charge customers for placing a bag in its carry-on bins. Spirit's fee costs as much as $45 each way.
If Allegiant decides to add such a fee, it would probably do so by this summer, the Las Vegas Sun reports in a follow-up to the Q&A.
In fact, Levy suggests some passengers might even welcome a carry-on fee.
"The reality is that because we charge for checked bags, there are fewer checked bags, and more people are bringing things into the cabin," Levy is quoted as saying by the Sun. "That typically ends up delaying flights and inconveniencing a lot of our customers."

wednesday ugh
Sure wish I felt better.
It's Ash Wednesday - and I will be in class tonight. I've given up caffeine and red meat this year for Lent. Just curious what everyone else has given up?
I also find it a little odd that it's 78 and sunny on Ash Wednesday. I think I expect it to still be cold and winter.

review and review
Here I sit, working, reading...doing my very best to get through these books and articles for my literature review project. This is such an exhaustive process. The amount of content that must be read through is important in order to cover the depth and breadth of the topic, and I found myself initially a little apprehensive at the daunting task of this whole thing. But now that I've had a chance to meet with my instructors my path ahead seems a little clearer. And my topic a bit more refined which I think will help me in the long run.
In a bit of travel news, I thought this particular story was interesting - seems like everyone is trying to legislate these things...even in New Hampshire.

Playing for me right now: Haydn. Which you ask? Symphony No. 90 in C.

Dance of joy
I just internally did the dance of joy - just found out that my Lit Review 1st draft is not due until the 23rd!!!!!
Excuse me while I exhale.
Excuse me while I exhale.
always double-check
Quick note of travel advice for today:
If you're traveling on a voucher and the airline tells you that you don't qualify for upgrades, still ask the gate to add you to the list if you're supposed to qualify.
It scored me a first class seat - you can get one too!
