Upcoming Trip: Ireland/Switz

Packing has commenced!

In about a week we'll depart for a wonderful vacation to Ireland with close friends from back in Milwaukee where we are due to circle the country.  I'm really looking forward to this trip since the last time Shannon and I were there, the weather was not entirely cooperative.  This trip should be much more adventurous and the weather a bit more comfortable.

I'll cap things off with a few days in Murren/Gimmelwald and Zurich to round things out.  I'm looking forward to being back in the quiet alps where there is nothing but sheep and green. The Northface Trail is my absolute favorite giving the view below:

JetBlue reducing jobs in Support Centers

Per Travel Weekly:

JetBlue is reducing staffing levels at support centers as part of an effort to bring down structural costs.

"We aren't disclosing a specific number today, but the reductions are a combination of voluntary buyouts, elimination of open positions and involuntary departures," vice president of communications Doug McGraw said in an email on Friday. "While the primary objective is to enable faster decision-making and streamline how teams work together so we can deliver on our strategic objectives, the restructuring also is a meaningful step toward our corporate structural cost goal."

I've been very impressed over the years with the professionalism and availability of JetBlue agents via their customer support lines; I hope this doesn't impact their ability to help us in time of need.

A short hop to DC

Last weekend I had a chance to get to DC and connect with a dear friend, Karl, from our days back at WLC.  We used to regularly attend Gen Con in Indy though both of our jobs now keep us quite a distance away.  Since DC is just down the road for both of us, it was an easy decision to get together. Plus I've been overdue to visit (and still have to see the Archives).

No Archives visit this trip either since they are only open M-F.  Next time I'll need to take a Fri or Monday off to see!

AA Bronze card becoming MileUp card

I keep an active AA credit card since I still accrue miles with them and a diversified miles portfolio is important for any program changes.  The Bronze card has been helpful: no annual fee, discount on in-flight purchases, etc.  The email I received today though detailed some changes coming to the bronze card - it will become a MileUp card this month.

This is overall great news in my opinion - gone is the poor earn rate of $2/1 mile and bonuses will be included on the new card.  It will also stay a no annual fee card.

July is here...and vacation

It's a bit hard to believe we're in July already - I'm trying not to think about how the fall semester is right around the corner.

Before that happens, though, there is much travel to be experienced!

It will start later this week with a trip home to be with family for the 4th holiday.  Looking forward to being in the northwoods (even though it will probably be hot and humid).  Last year United foiled my attempt to go home with cancelled flights so I'm anticipating a better experience this year.

Safe travels to all!
