gate creep = boo

For the record, I would just like to share how much I detest gate creep.

That is all.

(this post was circa several days ago at the Sacramento airport but I forgot to submit it)

Oh...and Happy Leap Day!

so far so good

Greetings from Sacramento...

Had a few quick minutes to send a post in between class time and classroom visits, and so far things have been going very well.  My class work yesterday at the capitol was very informing, and we had a good experience with the individuals we met along the way.  Today I've been at our fellow CSU campus (Sac State) looking at smart classrooms and related technology, and it's also been very informative.  Can't wait to share the pictures with my team when I get back.

Happy Friday!

walk down memory lane...dear ruth...

A recent exchange via Facebook made me take a walk down memory lane, courtesy of the theatre.  While updating some pictures and getting others tagged, some nostalgia ensued when we got to the cast photo of Dear Ruth...such a fun show!  It was also the first (initially awkward) stage kissing I had to do, and when I think back to the fun we all had it makes me smile.  We sold out every show, got a ton of laughs, and really got into our roles.  Even though my character took one on the chin in the storyline, I still laugh when I think of everything that was going on in that house.  Times were much simpler then!

Giving up for Lent?

It is nearly that time of year when Epiphany ends and Lent begins, starting this week on Ash Wednesday.  In past years I've done a mixture of things to "give up" - I always think it puts things in perspective a bit more, and since I've often had conflicts with class and work which make me unable to make the Wednesday church services, I don't mind doing something like that.

So, what to give up this year?  I think I've decided on red meat and caffeine - who's with me?

Chobe National Park

Time for a trip to Africa for the next "place of the day" to highlight.  I haven't done many posts yet about places to visit there, although South Africa is on my list to get to eventually.  Whenever I think about Africa I think of lions and tigers and animals like that.  But the great thing about Chobe is the elephants you can see!

The national park is actually located on the corner of three countries - Botswana, Zambia, Namibia, and Zimbabwe.  It has the highest concentration of elephants during the dry season!  You also might be able to catch a hippo if you're lucky.  The Chobe Chilwero Lodge is the preferred place to stay.  Enjoy the viewing!

schedule finally set

I'm very happy to report that my semester school schedule is finally set - I got approved to waive my seminar course and will be in Higher Ed Admin as well as the law course I'm already in.  Very glad that it all worked out so well so far!  Next up for me is proposal and proposal defense, most likely in mid-April.

To treat myself, I went and got Italian last night - had some yummy lasagna and a Caesar salad that were very well prepared.  I enjoy trying new places when I have the time...wish I had more time for that.

Super Bowl Sunday

Well...it's finally here.  Guess we can get it all over with between the Giants and the Patriots (still a little bitter about how the Packers played, but that's beside the point).

I'll be watching the game by myself, and rooting for the NFC...can't help it.  I have a feeling the Patriots will be slowed by their TE being hurt.  I'm sure it will be good though.

Hope everyone has a good time watching!

a break...for some hummus

I think I've been averaging about 16 hours a day between work and school and other things, and that will continue into this weekend and through the coming days, but I did have a minute to run outside to the farmer's market on campus and treat myself to some hummus.

Sun-dried tomato basil!  My favorite.

a safari...with polar bears?

I know it's been a bit since my last post for a "place of the day", so today's location will be winter-themed, and focused on Canada.  Can't help it...it involves polar bears.

Known as the polar bear capital of the world!  Every winter before the Hudson Bay freezes, the bears come and venture off to their hunting. Typically though this is between mid-October to mid-November, so you have to plan it enough ahead of time.
