I've landed BOS for a technical work meeting tomorrow at WBUR - we will review their 16' Absen video wall installation as part of our analysis of solutions that are possible for the renovation work occurring in McCosh 50 the next two summers. It's fun to be back in Cambridge and near BU - looking forward to seeing the tech tomorrow!

Back to WI...for Grandma
This week I am back in WI on short notice to be with my family because of the passing of my Grandma. I'm glad I was able to work out everything in my schedule to be here for my dad and family - knowing that grandma is in heaven truly is a joy and comfort for all of us.

Notre Dame in Paris on fire
See news here: https://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-47941794
Very sad and hoping the damage is not too extensive.

Quiet weekend
Fairly quiet weekend on tap with teaching work to do and other catching up with email. The weeks ahead will be pretty busy with travel for both work and vacation. Next weekend: Montreal!

United Eliminating Award Charts
Extremely disappointed to read today that United is eliminating award charts and going to a modified type of dynamic mileage pricing for award flights (immediately for flights after November 15th).
You can read the announcement/info here.
Instead of continuing to be innovative, United and other airlines are content to match whatever Delta does and it is a disservice to loyal flyers. It also takes away expectations and transparency for what you can get for your miles (remember the 25k roundtrip?). Now awards can be any amount they want at any time for no particular reason. While UA has been my preferred airline and offered reasonable options for Europe travel, this will make me rethink my travel options moving forward.
I wonder what the execs at Chase are thinking since they've invested so heavily in the points/miles partnership with United...

No Fool! New Chase Freedom bonus categories
There's no avoiding April 1st - it's the start of the new quarter and new bonus categories for Chase Freedom card holders. I really enjoyed having drug stores and gas stations for the first quarter of the year and was able to max out the bonus points. Through June 30 these are the new bonuses:
Grocery stores will be an easy option for normal spend - I likely won't be able to use the home improvement category but it's nice to have options.
